Besides Meals on Wheels deliveries, Capital Rotary helps meet the needs of hungry people by volunteering at Harvest Hope Food Bank’s Columbia site. In lieu of a club meeting, our members pitch-in to pack groceries for distribution to the needy and elderly. We’ve also donated funds to support Harvest Hope’s operations across 20 counties in South Carolina.
The food bank was started in 1981 to assist in identifying pockets of poverty and hunger, and to gather and share quality food with individuals and families. It now partners with 476 member non-profit agencies, distributes more than 25 million pounds of food each year and feeds over 35,000 people a week.
